Erin E. Williams

Erin has been active in animal protection for more than a dozen years. Her concern for animals was sparked as a result of spending much of her childhood on her family’s dairy farm in rural Illinois. She has worked or volunteered for a number of animal protection and environmental organizations, from small student groups to international nonprofits.

She has been a wildlife rehabilitator, a campaign director, shelter director for the world’s largest rabbit rescue organization, and more. She founded an environmental nonprofit focusing on factory farm issues, and she has taught numerous classes and workshops focusing on animal protection, the environment, and social justice. Erin is a UC Berkeley graduate and has a master of nonprofit administration.

She lives in Silver Spring, Md., with her fiancée and works for
The Humane Society of the United States, the nation’s largest animal protection organization.




Margo DeMello

Margo is a longtime writer, scholar, and animal advocate as well as a nationally-known expert on rabbit behavior. She has worked with animals throughout her adult life, primarily rescuing rabbits and working as a director for national and international organizations such as House Rabbit Society. Today, she combines her volunteer work for this group with work for two other nonprofits: Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary in California, and Prairie Dog Pals, a New Mexico rescue organization.

She is the author of Stories Rabbits Tell (co-written with Susan Davis), Low-Carb Cookbook, and Bodies of Inscription. In 2007, her work will appear in the Encyclopedia of Human-Animal Relationships, A Cultural History of Animals, and more.

Margo’s work has been published in numerous academic journals such as Anthropology Today, Journal of Popular Culture, and Anthrozöos. She has contributed essays to a number of books and journals.

Margo earned her Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from UC Davis. She teaches sociology, cultural studies, and anthropology at Central New Mexico Community College. She lives near Albuquerque, N.M., with five dozen house rabbits (one of the only free-ranging domestic rabbit warrens in the country), as well as two birds, two Chihuahuas, three cats, and a husband.

Margo and Erin have been good friends for more than seven years.
